This year they choose Nip Tuck Remodeling and Slater Interiors among four entrants for this category. We had so much fun and latitude to explore new design possibilities. Our design focused first on imagination – then matched our clients’ budget to their inspiration. We encouraged our client to imagine their perfect bathroom and then worked with them to make their dream a reality, creating an open, luxurious, spa-like bathroom for their home in Mill Creek, Washington.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height="50px"][mk_image src="https://sinteriorsst.wpengine.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/melinda-rex-award-winner-1.jpg" image_size="full" lightbox="true"][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css=".vc_custom_1458280723537{padding-right: 10% !important;padding-left: 10% !important;}"][vc_column][vc_empty_space height="50px"][vc_column_text]

The Situation

Our clients came to us with a set budget in mind – explaining that they just wanted to replace an old shower. However following initial discovery, the project turned into a redesign focused on fulfilling their desire for a more open, luxurious, spa-like bathroom.

The Challenge

Additionally, the existing bathroom was cramped and, with little aesthetic appeal, it was merely utilitarian. And there were several space issues including a leaking shower, an unused soaking tub, and a small, closed off toilet / shower room. Finally, the wife wanted to be able to sit comfortably in front of the mirror (in the old bathroom she had to sit on the edge of the tub at an awkward angle). So the challenge was to open up the space while fulfilling the clients’ desire for something unique, beautiful as well as functional.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height="50px"][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css=".vc_custom_1458280949552{padding-right: 10% !important;padding-left: 10% !important;}"][vc_column width="1/2"][mk_image src="https://sinteriorsst.wpengine.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Before-3-375x500.jpg" image_width="529" image_height="519" lightbox="true" title="Before" desc="Utilitarian shower"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][mk_image src="https://sinteriorsst.wpengine.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Before-2-375x500.jpg" image_width="529" image_height="519" lightbox="true" title="Before" desc="Impractical countertop"][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css=".vc_custom_1458280723537{padding-right: 10% !important;padding-left: 10% !important;}"][vc_column][vc_empty_space height="50px"][vc_column_text]

The Solution

We addressed these challenges by removing the tub and taking out the wall between the two spaces. We then surrounded the new shower with glass, creating a more open, light and luxurious experience. To address the space’s functionality challenges, we designed an entirely new countertop and sink area. The clients wanted a countertop that was suitable for sitting at, however they wanted to stay away from the traditional “dip” (varied heights) that is found in the majority of double-sink countertops. We resolved this challenge by installing a 10’ slab of beautiful walnut to act as the countertop, then designed customized sinks to sit on top of this slab to add height and dimension. We complemented these new designs with a beautiful, multi-dimensional, stone tile wall adjacent to the countertop to build depth and add another natural element to the space as well as artistic, airy pendant lighting.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height="50px"][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css=".vc_custom_1458280949552{padding-right: 10% !important;padding-left: 10% !important;}"][vc_column width="1/2"][mk_image src="https://sinteriorsst.wpengine.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/After-4-500x333.jpg" image_width="529" image_height="519" lightbox="true" title="After" desc="Beautifully blended with existing bedroom"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][mk_image src="https://sinteriorsst.wpengine.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/messena-residence-bathroom-14.jpg" image_width="529" image_height="519" lightbox="true" title="After" desc="Open & Airy"][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space height="50px"][mk_testimonials testimonials="440"][/vc_column][/vc_row]
